The sweet taste of freedom

This is an image of Pepi taken today after her first night of freedom aged 16 months and weighing approx 10kg. Her Mums found her this morning in a favourite hollow tree a couple of hundred metres from her pen. She was not shall we say looking her best, but then again I'm a fine one to talk as I sport a muddy look most of the time - it goes with the territory. Pepi gladly followed her Mums back to the pen for a good day's sleep, ready for the excitement of another night.

I'm not sure it's such a good development as Pepi was straight round to my pen last night to raid my grass pellets. Guess it's time for those to stop anyway, as I've been out and about since mid June. Initially it was scary, but now I'm really at home in the wild and move from burrow to burrow as the mood and the weather takes me. No doubt I'll be seeing Pepi on my travels, and who knows, maybe one day we'll have a romantic liaison....

  1. Chester!

You really need to give Pepi a break. It was her first venture [back] into the wild and, as you say yourself, it's a scary transition. So she raided your grass pellets - get over it!

Otherwise, hope all goes well with you and your burrowing. Please establish yourself fully before harbouring thoughts of making wombat babies with Pepi, or any other ladies of your kind.

    Love & kisses,
    Auntie Lou
